Message For My Special Needs & Autism Community

I know this message will not resonate with everyone, and it’s not intended to. Those for whom this does resonate, I hope it brings you much healing, peace of mind, solace, comfort and evokes your own knowing.

Please know this is my community. I have a son on the autism spectrum and he is a very, very, very special soul. I mean, VERY. This message is for anyone out there who has someone on the autism spectrum in their lives – a loved one, a friend perhaps. And it’s for those who know that this person is a very, very, very special soul in your own lives too.

When you have someone like this in your life, you can feel their essence strongly. You know the power of their soul. You know that in many ways they’re lightyears ahead of the rest of us spiritually. But, their physical bodies need support. They’re so big and amazing energetically. But how is that supposed to fit into a physical body that feels so limited?!

I try to look at physical development from this different perspective also. For example, when you take something like speech, many of us sometimes think that’s the only or best way to communicate. I grew up in a collective culture, which was very different than American culture. To be clear, not better or worse. In some aspects of life, I prefer this culture. In other aspects, I really like my American culture. In American culture, what is valued is directness and saying what you mean. Whereas in other cultures, what you mean doesn’t always need to be said because it’s already collectively understood.

In spiritual culture, you can feel beyond the words that are being spoken. Often when I’m working with someone, what’s not said is the key to unlocking that person’s connection with their own knowing. So, we can look at speech a little differently in this context. Speech is a form of energetic expression. It’s NOT THE ONLY form of expression. We can express through our just our energy alone, our emotions, through art, sports, everyday activities. We show people who we are more than we tell people who we are.

My son is PURE LIGHT and LOVE and POWER. And being around him, you can’t help but feel better and your own energy vibration lift. I can feel his energetic expression strongly and Inuit his words, even if he can’t always express them verbally.

Now, this doesn’t mean that I also don’t support him in being in his physical body. Do I want him to have more speech, ABSOLUTLEY! Do I want him to feel good in his body? YES! Do I want his methylation pathways to be open so his body can process things within him and around him with ease? YES! Do I want him to grow and develop as much as possible? HELL YES! To all of this, YES, YES and YES!!!!!!!!!!

Each day, I do my best to remember who he is, which is much more than his physical body. In the process of life, I also grieve what his physical body is not yet able to do. At times, I feel sad and frustrated. And then I come back to who I know him to be and what I can control in each moment, and what I can do to support him physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

And for those who do have someone like my son in their lives, I know you know this to be true. Especially if this is your own child. You know who they are. No one can tell you otherwise. The “deficits” are always what some others may focus on. They’re not being mal-intentioned, rather, they want to help our kids and loved ones make progress. And this is the language they may be accustomed to or trained in.

Hopefully you feel their true essence beyond these surface symptoms. And hopefully you have awareness and support of things that can be done to help those you love be more in their bodies and be able to access their bodies in the ways that they want.

God Bless and may healing come your way!
